Ameek, Pratyush win titles in AITA tournaments

Odisha youngsters Ameek Kiran Batth and Pratyush Mohanty tasted notable success in all-India tennis tournaments at different places this week. Bhubaneswar lass Ameek won the under-14 girls doubles title with partner Richa Chogale in the AITA National Series Tournament, held at Panchagani in Maharashtra from April 25 to 30.

They defeated Gargi Pawar and Vela Tambedkar in the final 6-1, 6-4. Ameek became the first girl from Odisha and only player to win a National Series tournament. She, however, crashed out in the third round of the singles event.

Pratyush, also from Bhubaneswar, won the under-16 doubles title and finished under-14 singles runner-up in the AITA Talent Series Tournament, held at Dakshin Kalikata Sansad in Kolkata from April 25 to 29. In the doubles final, Pratyush and Rishav Brahma of Assam beat West Bengal duo of Kanav Goel and Aaman Wasim 6-4, 6-2. In the singles final, Pratyush went down to Aaman Wasim.
